Happy Sunday! This week’s Weekend Roundup is going up a little later than usual because my weekend has been crazy busy. Yesterday, I was at the Seed Food and Wine Festival’s Tasting Village all day and it was so much fun. I’m either going to make a blog post or a vlog recapping the event. - In saddening news, forest guardian Paulo Paulino Guajajara was killed by illegal loggers in the Amazon rainforest last week. Indigenous people living in the Amazon have been facing more aggression from loggers in recent years as they try to protect their lands and the rainforest.
- Three weeks ago, I shared that the non-profit organization The Ocean Cleanup had successfully captured plastic in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. Well, the organization has some more good news. They launched a new invention called The Interceptor that will collect plastic pollution in rivers. The aim is to limit the amount of plastic ending up in our oceans by ‘intercepting’ it before it gets there.
- While plastic pollution from rivers is a major contributor to ocean plastic, another source is ghost fishing gear. Discarded fishing equipment poses a long-term threat to marine wildlife. All the more reason to leave seafood off your plate.
