Happy weekend friends! For some time now, I have been wanting to create a weekly or bi-weekly roundup of recent articles, videos, TED Talks, etc. that I’ve come across and believe will be informative and/or helpful for you guys. I mainly want to share information pertaining to environmental issues, sustainability, veganism, and various social justice issues. I’ll also likely share the occasional cute animal video or random link because a little positivity is also necessary.
This post will kick-off the start of my “Weekend Roundup” series. If any of the below topics interest you, just click the link to be taken to the article or video of your choosing. Happy learning!
- A great piece by The Atlantic discusses how climate change will affect our oceans and sea ice. I found this article to be very informative and also a bit alarming.
- Ever wondered about carbon offsets? If so, check out this article by Well+Good that explains the pros and cons of offsetting your carbon emissions.
- NowThis News published a video today sharing that non-violent animal rights activists can face serious felony charges for investigating factory farms. The video also discusses how Big Agriculture has its hands in politics. This is a must-watch.
- An article by Buzzfeed discusses how young female climate activists are being targetted by trolls online. In my opinion, this is a serious problem. Adults should not be harassing young girls online, or anyone for that matter.
- In a short Ted Talk, Moreangels Mbizah talks about the importance of community-led wildlife conservation.
- Something big is happening in the Supreme Court this week. On October 8th, the Supreme Court will hear three related cases concerning LGBTQ rights. Check out this article by The New York Times to learn more about the cases.
- Jameela Jamil was on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah last week and talked about “wokeness,” body liberation, and what it means to be a “feminist in progress.” Jameela is a star on The Good Place and does some incredible activism work.
