    March Favorites

Hi there! It’s been a while since I’ve posted anything and I know I’ve been absent on my blog for the past two months. March was a very busy month for me between traveling to Spain (more about that below), taking a plant-based nutrition course, and my workload increasing at my job. Now that things are settling down a bit, I’m ready to jump back into blogging, which I’m feeling excited about.

While March was a stressful and busy month, I still came across some favorites that I want to share. Keep on reading if you want to hear a little bit about my trip to Spain and other things I loved this month.

    Trip: Spain

If you read my 2019 Goals and Intentions post, you might remember that one of my goals for this year was to travel to Spain. Well, I got to accomplish this goal a little sooner than expected. I have been drawn to Spain for so many years since it is where my Dad’s family is from so this trip was a dream come true! When my friend Caitlin, who I went to Kauai with, asked if I was interested in going to Spain with her during her spring break and I obviously said yes.

We flew to Spain on March 1st, spent four days in Barcelona and four days in Madrid, and then flew back to Miami on March 10th. I absolutely loved both cities and had so much fun exploring them. Some highlights were visiting La Sagrada Familia, Park Güell, Casa Milà, and Casa Batlló in Barcelona and the Royal Palace and El Retiro Park in Madrid. I also had so many delicious meals on this trip. I could not believe how many vegan options are available in Spain. I had done my research before going and had found plenty of vegan places to eat at but I stumbled upon even more vegan and vegan-friendly places while there. I really hope to visit Spain again in the future and explore other parts of the country, specifically the Northwest where my family is from.

    Restaurant: La Colectiva in Madrid

By far my favorite place I ate at while in Spain was La Colectiva in Madrid. Not only was the staff super friendly and kind but the food was outstanding. My friend Caitlin and I ate at La Colectiva four times in a span of three days because we loved it so much. I tried their toast with olive oil and tomato, which is a classic Spanish breakfast, chocolate babka, cinnamon roll, and chocolate chip banana bread. Everything was delicious and their banana bread was the best banana bread I have ever had in my life. If you ever visit Madrid, you HAVE to try this little cafe.

    TV Show: The OA

The OA is one of my all-time favorite shows. It beautifully blends science with spirituality and is probably the most creative show I’ve ever seen. The OA is unique and intelligent and thought-provoking and I absolutely love it. When I learned that Part 2 was finally coming out in March, I was ecstatic since it had been over two years since the show debuted on Netflix. While I didn’t like having to wait so long for the next season, Part 2 was well worth the wait. The new season takes the mythology of the show even deeper and it really makes you question the mysteries of the universe and the possibility of multiple dimensions. I don’t want to touch on the plot because it’s better if you go into watching this show with a blank slate but if you like science-fiction, mysteries, and creative story-telling, then I’d highly recommend this show.

    Movie: Captain Marvel

Captain Marvel is one of my favorite superhero movies to date. I was really excited to see it and had very high expectations for Marvel’s first female-led movie (it was about time Marvel!). Well, Captain Marvel did not disappoint and kudos to the cast and crew for making an awesome movie that has done exceptionally well at the box office. Brie Larson did an excellent job bringing Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel to life. I really enjoyed learning Captain Marvel’s origin story and watching her uncover her past and harness her full power. It also makes me happy that young girls have more and more strong female characters to look up to because representation is so important. I can’t wait to see more of Captain Marvel in Avengers: Endgame later this month.

    Documentary: Free Solo

The documentary Free Solo follows rock climber Alex Honnold as he attempts to free solo El Capitan in Yosemite. If you don’t know much about rock climbing, free solo climbing is a form of rock climbing in which a climber does not use any ropes or harnesses. It is the most dangerous form of rock climbing since any slip or fall will most likely lead to death. Alex Honnold is one of the best free soloists ever and a true master of his craft. I’ve been a fan of his for a few years now and am always amazed by his work ethic and the climbs he is able to do.

Free Solo won the Oscar for Best Documentary Feature, and deservedly so. Directors Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin, who are married, did an excellent job telling Alex’s story and the cinematography is just beautiful. The documentary leads up to Alex’s climb by showing his preparation and the climb itself is just incredible to watch. Even though I knew Alex made it and didn’t fall, I was still super nervous watching him free solo. I can’t imagine how stressful it must’ve been for the crew filming. I’d highly recommend watching this when you get the chance (it’s currently available on Hulu).
