Just like that, the first month of the year is over. I always love the month of January. Not only is it my birthday month but it is also the start of a whole new year and I find that January has an optimistic energy about it. The first month of the year was off to a good start for me and I hope it was for you, as well. I’ve done pretty well with some of my goals and I’m feeling pumped for what’s to come this year. I also discovered some new favorites this month, which you can read about below. This monthly favorites is a few days late but I hope you still enjoy reading about them.
Personal Care Product: Journey On Adventurer’s Kit from Saje Natural Wellness
I normally wouldn’t order something like this for myself but, when my diffuser broke last November, I had to return it to Saje and I received a store credit to buy a new one. My diffuser was on sale so I had some extra money to buy another item and settled on the Journey On Adventurer’s Kit because a) it’s travel-themed and b) it comes with 4 products. The kit contains a crystal deodorant, an essential oil energy blend roller, lotion, and lip balm. I’ve been using the deodorant and find that it works really well and it hasn’t caused me any irritation. I’ve also been using the energy blend roller, which is comprised of peppermint, lemon, and rosemary. I don’t know that it energizes me per se but I really like the scent. I think this kit would make a great gift for someone who is into essential oils and natural, cruelty-free products.
Podcast: Rise Podcast with Rachel Hollis – Episode 80
Last month, a youtube video by Rachel Hollis showed up in my recommendations. I felt so motivated after watching the video and wanted more of her uplifting words so I looked her up on Instagram and started following her. I found out that she is the author of Girl Wash Your Face, a popular self-help book I’ve been wanting to read but I didn’t know she was the author. I also found out that she has a podcast called Rise so I decided to give it a listen.
Episode 80, titled “The Hard Things That Will Throw You Off-Course (and How to Fight Them),” was the first episode I listened to and I just enjoyed every second of it. It was a recording of a keynote speech she gave at a summit. Rachel is funny and down to earth and is so good at motivating people. If you are in a funk and need some inspiration to follow your passions, go give this episode a listen.
Movie: Bohemian Rhapsody
I saw Bohemian Rhapsody toward the beginning of January and absolutely loved it. While I wasn’t a huge Queen fan prior to watching the movie, I did know several of their hit songs and was very excited to see Bohemian Rhapsody. After seeing the movie, I now have a greater appreciation for Queen and for Freddie Mercury. I really enjoyed learning more about the band, how they formed and how they evolved over the years. The actors all gave great performances and Rami Malek deserves all the awards he has won so far for this film. The music was also outstanding, of course, and I didn’t realize just how many hit songs Queen had. You should definitely go see Bohemian Rhapsody while it’s still in theaters if you haven’t already.
Show: Travelers
Travelers
If you haven’t heard of Travelers before, it is a sci-fi show about time travel on Netflix. People from the future, called “travelers,” are sent to the 21st century to try and save the world because the future they come from is pretty bleak. I don’t want to give too much away because I think it’s best to go into the first episode not knowing much about the show. There are currently 3 seasons out and I just found out that Netflix did not renew Travelers for a fourth season, which I am really bummed about. I feel like this is one of Netflix’s better shows but they don’t promote it enough so the only way people really learn about it is through word of mouth. If you are looking for a new sci-fi show, I’d highly recommend starting this show on Netflix.
I would love to know how January was for you. Do you have any favorites from the last month? And how are you coming along with your 2019 goals? Let me know in the comments!
With light and love,
Victoria
