Hi friends! I hope your year has been going well so far despite all the negative news lately. From election stress to coronavirus fears, these last few weeks have been rough. I hope you’re taking care of yourself, practicing good hygiene, and being kind to people.
Other than all the bad news recently, 2020 has been pretty good for me so far. I’m slowly but surely making headway on some of my goals for the year. I’ve also been working on my blog more. I have a lot of ideas for blog posts I want to make and it’s just a matter of finding the time to write them. Anyway, without further ado, keep reading for my February favorites.
Restaurant: Thatch
Thatch is a relatively new plant-based restaurant in Miami that opened in the fall. It is owned by the same chef who owns my absolute favorite vegan restaurant, Christopher’s Kitchen, which is located in Palm Beach Gardens. I’ve been to Thatch several times now and really like some of their menu items. From the appetizers, the shattered potatoes, mac and cheese, and hummus with pita are all delicious. Other faves are the Margherita pizza and the classic ice cream sundae. If you live in Miami or ever visit, definitely check out Thatch.
Music Artist: Finneas
So I knew that Billie Eilish has a brother named Finneas who she writes and produces her music with. What I did not know until recently was that Finneas has his own music out. YouTube recommended the music video for his song “I Lost a Friend” so I watched it and immediately loved the song (thanks YouTube!). That led me to check out more of his music and I’ve been obsessed ever since. Some of my favorite songs of his are “Partners in Crime,” “Die Alone,” and “Life Moves On.” I’m just blown away by Finneas’ talent for writing and producing music.
TV Show: I Am Not Okay with This
I really enjoyed watching I Am Not Okay with This. It is a coming of age story that follows high schooler Sydney Novak as she starts to develop telekinetic powers. At the same time, she is still struggling with the death of her father and with her sexuality. One of my favorite aspects of the show is the friendship between Sydney and Stanley Barber, her neighbor and fellow classmate. Stanley is respectful and caring and just the most loveable character (you’ll know what I mean if you see the show).
I Am Not Okay with This is funny, awkward, down-to-earth, and, in my opinion, does a really good job portraying realistic teenagers. It’s also very binge-worthy; there are only 7 episodes in the first seasons and each one is less than 30 minutes long.
Movie: Wild Rose
I watched Wild Rose at the beginning of February and was so impressed by the story and the music in this movie. The main character, Rose-Lynn, is a young woman who lives in Glasgow, Scotland, and dreams of going to Nashville, Tennessee, to become a famous country singer. The problem: she has two young children, she just got out of prison, and she has little money to get there. Throughout the film, we see Rose-Lynn doing everything she can to make her dream a reality while also trying to reconnect with her mother and kids.
I won’t spoil the ending but I will say that I loved it and thought it was a fitting conclusion. Also, I have to add that Jessie Buckley, who plays Rose-Lynn, has such a beautiful and powerful singing voice. If you like country music and/or heartfelt movies then I’d recommend Wild Rose. It is currently available on Hulu.
I’d love to know what you’ve been loving recently. Are there any books, shows, or movies you’d recommend? Let me know in the comments below.
