Hello there and welcome to my blog, Rooted in Plants! My name is Victoria and I’m a 25-year-old living in Miami, FL. I’m a runner, a yogi, a bookworm, and an adventurer. I have an obsession with crystals and I probably spend too much time on Netflix. I’m also vegan if you hadn’t noticed yet. I became a vegetarian in June of 2013 and later went vegan in February 2015. Adopting a vegan lifestyle is the best decision I have ever made, for the animals, for the planet, and for myself. I’m incredibly grateful this lifestyle found me when it did and I’m proud of myself for choosing to align my lifestyle with my values. I’m hoping to inspire other people to adopt this compassionate and abundant lifestyle, too. It’s not always easy to change your lifestyle but it is so worth it and, if you’re interested in going vegan, I’d love to help you on your path.
While the focal point of my blog is veganism, I also want to discuss other topics, such as minimalism, sustainable fashion, spirituality, mental health, and much more. I want to talk about my struggles with social anxiety as well as my favorite vegan foods. I want to share my non-toxic, vegan skin care essentials but also travel diaries and the vegan restaurants I try while exploring new cities. Veganism will be the heart of this blog because it is at the core of who I am but it will not be the only topic I discuss.
A little more about me:
I was born and raised in Miami, FL, where it’s summer all year long, except in the winter months when we get a few cold fronts. I grew up playing soccer, reading books, and spending lots of time outdoors, for which I am very grateful. For as long as I can remember, I have loved animals. I watched a lot of Animal Planet growing up and I was always checking out books on animals from my school’s library. I specifically remember reading a book on the big cats of Africa, which is how the cheetah became my favorite animal. A friend once asked me if I felt like I was always destined to go vegan and I immediately said yes. It took me a while to make the connection between what was on my plate and who/where it came from but I got there eventually and my conscience is so much clearer now.
In high school, I started to develop an interest in nutrition and fitness which led me to study health in college. I went to the University of Florida (go gators!) and graduated in 2016 with a Bachelor of Science in Health Education. While I love UF and value my college education, I am passionate about a more natural, holistic approach to health that wasn’t really covered in my college classes. I wholeheartedly believe in a holistic approach to health so I decided to further my education into this area and become a health coach. I enrolled at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and I completed my certification in July of 2018. I hope to launch my own health coaching business one day when the time is right. As a health coach, my aim would be to help people adopt a well-rounded plant-based diet but also to improve their overall health and wellbeing. I will get around to starting my own health coaching business one day but, for now, I’m happy just starting this blog and hopefully making a positive impact in the world.
